ProcrastinEating

Just things that I find around the web that are really cool and interesting.

We flatter ourselves by thinking this compulsion to please others is an attractive trait: a gist for imaginative empathy, evidence of our willingness to give. At the mercy of those we cannot but hold in contempt, we play roles doomed to failure before they are begun, each defeat generating fresh despair at the urgency of divining and meeting the next demand made upon us.

Self-deception remains the most difficult deception. The tricks that work on others count for nothing in that well-lit back alley where one keeps assignations with oneself.

I’m going to write a novel one day. It probably won’t be great, but it’ll be my voice.

Manchester City wins the EPL / The greatest game I’ve ever seen.

Every human being should watch this game. No doubt, if made into a movie, it would beat out Batman The Dark Knight Rises, or whatever summer blockbuster this year.

Alright I’m just gonna give a quick plot summary.

Manchester City and Manchester United, two bitter rivals from the same city are tied at the top of the premier league going into the final match of the season. Both are playing horrible teams, and if both win (as expected) City get the title via a goal differential tiebreaker. Oh and City haven’t won the league in 44 years, whereas United seem to win it every year (6 in the past 12 years).

United cruises to a 1-0 victory.

City goes up 1-0. Smooth sailing so far. The team they are playing however, QPR, is in danger of finishing in the bottom three and need a tie or win to keep from being relegated. So they throw a couple more men forward and get a goal off a City miscue. 1-1. City is at home, most teams find it much easier to win at home. The fans are distraught.

QPR player Barton gets a red card for an elbow and a knee to another player. QPR down to 10 men, City should find the winning goal soon.

QPR counterattack, goal. Amazingly, 2-1, City need two goals now against this horrible team with only 10 men who somehow have the lead after 70 minutes. QPR pack it in the back and play defensively. Some City fans are shown crying over losing the title that was easily theirs.

No goals in the last 20 minutes. The QPR keeper comes up huge with about 3 goal-saving deflections. 5 minutes of stoppage time added. A ginger is shown bawling in the stands. City looks deflated.

Boom. One goal off a corner. Boom, second goal with 1 minute left. City win the league, United who had almost busted out the champagne look stunned as the camera cuts to their game. City fans rush the field.

And then the cubs won the World series…..not.

Extra F

Funny how day off and day of are almost the same spelling, but mean totally opposite things.

Tomorrow will be the day of my final exam. I will not be taking the day off.

Side note: already debating what dessert I should get afterward. Fat life.

Probably shouldn’t listen to College Droupout by Kanye while studying for finals. Too depressing.

But also, too funny. Got me cracking smiles at these stressed out dukies =)

See the tiny kid in the back row, second from the right? In Canada’s youth soccer landscape, that kid would get lost. He would get bullied by kids like the one standing beside him, who are bigger, stronger and faster. He would never get the chance to fulfill his potential, because the system would never give him a chance to shine.
That kid in the back row, with the white shorts pulled up to his armpits? That’s Lionel Messi, arguably the best player on the planet.

A good read on youth development in Canada (and it very much relates to the US), also, Baby Leo Messi.

American Food

So far, this tumblr has been about things—whether scientific, beautiful, or funny—that I find on the web. But like all small ventures, there is a need to grow, to diversify. Therefore, I’m going to interlace my creative musings in my forthcoming posts. Also, not to sound arrogant or conceited, but I say a lot of astounding truths—truths that I only partially understand. I’m going to try to record these truths on this blog.

For example: Italians have pizza and pasta, Mexicans have tacos and burritos, Greeks have gyros, but what is America most known for, beside our fast variety of options?

I present to you, the rules of American culinary creations:

1) Take a good meat. Put said meat on a bun. Top with ridiculous condiments.
Sausage = hot dog, Steak = burger, Chicken = Chicken sandwich

2) If number one doesn’t apply, fry said food.
Fried Pickles, French Fries, Fried chicken.

Deep Fried Hamburgers from 1912 anyone?
